Our Sorority
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is an organization of college educated women committed to the constructive development of its members and to public service with a primary focus on the Black community.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Since its founding, more than 350,000 women have joined the organization. The organization is a sisterhood of predominantly Black, college educated women.
The Sorority currently has over 1,050 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, Canada, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the United Kingdom, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Republic of Korea, the Arabian Gulf, Southern Africa and West Africa.
The major programs of the Sorority are based upon the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement.

Our Chapter
April 30, 2005: Charter members of the Tracy Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Our Chartering
The Tracy Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, was chartered on April 30, 2005, by 27 Delta women who desired to serve their communities in the North San Joaquin Valley. The ceremony was led by Farwest Regional Director Thelma James Day, Ed.D., and Farwest Regional Representative Danielle A. Moore, at the First United Methodist Church of Tracy.
Our Story
Several months after chartering, the chapter lost beloved charter member Chantay Murray to cancer. A scholarship established in her honor was later renamed the Memorial Scholarship in recognition of all charter members who are eternally resting.
The chapter’s early work included social action forums, voter registration drives, and cultural events such as Kwanzaa, with signature fundraisers beginning with Jazz Night and the first annual Crab Feed Dinner and Dance in 2007.
In 2006, the chapter launched the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy in collaboration with the Tracy Unified School District Board of Education, and in 2008, Tracy Mayor Brent Ives proclaimed March 22 “Young Women’s Empowerment Day” on behalf of the chapter.
The chapter has initiated four lines since its inception, in 2008, 2011, 2018, and 2023, and assisted with the reactivation of the Lambda Tau chapter in 2011.
In 2021, the chapter partnered with Health Plan of San Joaquin on the “Ask.Learn.Decide” vaccine education campaign, which featured chapter members on billboards and bus ads throughout San Joaquin County.
Notable chapter members include Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom, a charter member, who has represented California’s 13th Assembly District since January 2025.
